Tubao is a handwoven cloth used by most Bangsamoro and lumad groups in Mindanao. “Tubao” is a Maranao term that has been later adapted by the Maguindanao. This piece is a unique Maguindanao hybrid. It is usually used as a headgear by men. It also has a distinct feature similar to the telia rumal from the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. However, the main difference lies in their composition. While tubao has plain or banded color fields that are usually red, the Indian version is distinguished by their use of ikat-dyeing (sometimes double ikat) and supplementary weft weaving.
